Olympos, Adrasan and the surrounding region of Lycia
Our venue is situated very near both Olympos and Adrasan. Turkish people believe that once you visit Olympos you will visit again because the air will call you back! It is a special place, with a magnificent, clean pebble beach that stretches for miles. It is reached through the waterways and tombs of the ancient Lycian city, with small walkways surrounded by orange and lemon trees. The hot days can be cooled by taking dips in the sea and the streams from the mountains.
Also nearby is the village of Adrasan (also known by it's Turkish name of Cavuskoy). This quiet Turkish village is set next to a long, sweeping bay with a large sandy beach surrounded and sheltered by evergreen-forested mountains.
Slightly further afield lie a multitude of
local attractions.
We are in the midst of Lycia, the land of the ancient
Lycians
, an intriguing and advanced people who inhabited the mountainous lands between Antalya and Fethiye as long ago as 1500 BC until the Byzantine period some 2000 years later. They were skilful carvers of stone, and built impressive cities with advanced irrigation systems, grand amphitheatres and complex public baths. However, the most striking legacy they left were their unique tombs – intricately carved out of the limestone rock of the area.
About twenty significant
Lycian
historic sites remain today - many of them are within a couple of hours drive and provide for fascinating day trips. The stunning site of Phaselis is particularly close by.
Other
local activities
that are provided by the environment include rock-climbing, caving, water-sports and some beautiful walks.
Nearby towns such as Kumluca and Finike are well worth visiting on market days – this is a fantastically fertile area for the growing of fresh produce (especially tomatoes, citrus fruits, olives, pomegranates, and a whole gamut of vegetables), so a trip to the market is quite an experience!
The city of Antalya also has it’s charms, particularly in the recently restored old town.
